Rates are fetched from the Open Exchange Rates API (open.er-api.com), which provides free, frequently updated exchange rates sourced from financial data providers. Rates are typically updated every few hours. For high-stakes financial transactions, always verify with your bank or a licensed forex provider.
Q2.How is the currency conversion calculated?
All conversions go through USD as a base currency. For example, to convert EUR to GBP, we first look up EUR/USD and GBP/USD rates, then calculate EUR/GBP = (EUR/USD) ÷ (GBP/USD). This cross-rate method is standard in forex calculations and produces accurate results for all currency pairs.
Q3.What is an exchange rate?
An exchange rate is the price of one currency expressed in terms of another. For example, if 1 USD = 0.92 EUR, it means you get 0.92 euros for every US dollar. Exchange rates fluctuate constantly based on economic factors like inflation, interest rates, trade balances, and market sentiment.
Q4.What is the difference between mid-market rate and bank rate?
The mid-market rate (also called the interbank rate or spot rate) is the midpoint between buy and sell prices in global currency markets — it's the "real" exchange rate. Banks and money transfer services add a markup on top of this rate (their spread or fee), which is why you get a worse rate at banks. This converter shows the mid-market rate.
